Joint Replacement Myth #3: About Knee Injections

In this mini-article, Dr. Klaassen addresses a common belief that you can only have 1 knee injection treatment.

Myth: The idea that you can only have one knee injection is a common concern that I hear from patients.

Response: While bad reactions or other medical reasons may preclude patients from having more than one injection, the truth is, there are many types of knee injections that have various dosing directions. Generally, steroids can be used up to every 3 months, though patients may experience a diminishing benefit. Viscosupplementation or “gel/lubricants” can be given every 6 months. Talk to your surgeon about what might be right for you.

I have one patient in his 18th year of these!
